Who are we?

Saskatoon’s Sum Theatre is an independent theatre company dedicated to bringing people together through non-traditional live theatre experiences. We produce  contemporary Canadian plays and original adaptations. In the summer of 2013, over 4000 people came out to city parks to watch Sum Theatre’s inaugural production Alice in Wonderland.

At the 2013 Saskatoon and Area Theatre Awards, Sum Theatre was awarded a special Juror’s Award for Innovation.

Artistic Director Joel Bernbaum

Joel is an actor, journalist and playwright. Based in Saskatoon, Joel’s work has been seen across Canada and Europe. His play Home Is a Beautiful Word will be produced on the Belfry Theatre’s mainstage as a part of their 2013-2014 season. Since his Baba introduced him to theatre at age six, Joel has dreamt of ways to make theatre more accessible to his fellow Saskatoonians. In 2013, Sum Theatre turned this dream into reality when they toured an original adaptation of Alice in Wonderland to Saskatoon City parks.

Artistic Producer Heather Morrison

Heather is a actor, producer and radio host. She enjoys balancing her career at Saskatoon’s Magic 98.3 and her artistic endeavors. Recent theatre productions include ‘East of Berlin’ and ‘Comfort,’ both with her company, Know Tomorrow Theatre. Heather loves Saskatoon and is thrilled to offer the exciting experience of FREE theatre!
